IBM Institut Asia Malang
Goes to BEI Surabaya :
Getting to Know Capital Market Closer

On January 22, students from the International Business Management class at Institut Asia Malang visited the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) office in Surabaya. The visit aimed to give students first-hand experience in Indonesia’s capital market and deepen their understanding of investment and stock trading. As part of a curriculum that encourages engagement with the global business world, this activity was a valuable opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the economic and financial dynamics that play a vital role in the national economy.

While at the IDX Surabaya, students were welcomed by the capital market education team led by Ms. Hesty Tri Budihart. In this session, she explained in detail the role of the IDX as a place for stock trading in Indonesia. Students gained insight into buying and selling shares, the role of investors and securities companies, and the capital market regulations. Ms. Hesty also discussed how the IDX seeks to improve public financial literacy through educational programs aimed at students and prospective young investors.

The explanations helped students understand the factors that influence stock prices, from global economic conditions to the performance of specific companies. This session was packaged interactively, so students had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the BEI education team and discuss various aspects of investment.

This visit provided many benefits for students, especially in connecting the theories they learned in class with real practices in the financial industry. Many of them initially considered the capital market complicated, but after gaining a direct understanding from BEI, they became more confident about starting to invest and manage investment portfolios. In addition, this activity also encouraged students to be more active in seeking opportunities in the global financial sector following their fields of study.

Overall, the visit to BEI Surabaya was a valuable experience for students of the Institut Asia Malang. In addition to increasing academic insight, they also gained inspiration to explore the investment world further. With activities like this, it is hoped that students will be more prepared to face the international business world, which requires a deep understanding of financial markets and investment. This visit is also a concrete step in forming a young generation that is financially literate and ready to face the challenges of the global economy.
